Bio

Proud to have been born in Calgary, Alberta, home of the Calgary Flames and the world famous Stampede, Lonnie Rathie grew up on her parents fortunately excellent taste in music. All those good influences have made their way into what she calls ‘bastard folk-country-rock.’ After living and working in production in the film industry in Vancouver for many years, Lonnie decided that music was her true calling and set out to follow that goal in New York City with two bags, one guitar and a new motto for life- “face your fear, live your dream.” Lonnie attacked the independent circuit in NYC, playing over 45 shows at such noted venues as The Bitter End, The Rockwood Music Hall, Piano’s, Kenny’s Castaways, CBGB’s , The C-Note, and even The Hard Rock Café. She spent a summer in Montreal writing, recording and appearing as herself on the TV series “15/Love” which featured her music for three seasons. She has also performed in Vancouver, Austin, and China. Her original roots-rock sound conjures up frequent and appreciated comparisons to Natalie Merchant and Patty Griffin. She has released two independent CDs and is hoping to drum up some label interest and record her third soon. She has been featured as a musical guest on TV and radio, and as an acting musician on the series “The Twilight Zone”. Recently Lonnie spent a year and a half in China teaching English to children using Western songs. She created her own program using her iPod as a lesson plan and thoroughly enjoyed singing for a living. Lonnie got married in January 2008 in Australia and is currently residing in Sydney, eager to tackle the huge music scene there. She took a 5 week break to go to Europe and North America which included a gig in New York with her local band. Her music will be featured in the upcoming independent movie “Traveling at the Speed of Life”, written and directed by Brent Crowell. Lonnie’s love for music is followed closely by a slight obsession for hockey, kickboxing and pretty shoes. This future rock star speaks French, Italian and Spanish and picked up enough Mandarin Chinese to buy beer and ask how much shoes cost. The most important questions in any foreign language, non?
