Get What You Need (Feb 23, 2011)

We all know the music industry is changing in a monumental way. The great shift to digital downloads and file sharing is wiping many labels off the face of the Earth. Hard copy record sales are at an all time low, and the thousand copies of your album sitting in the closet are no exception. Putting yourself on ad heavy, overloaded American owned sites is getting you nowhere but on somebody’s top friends list. You are being buried in a mass of musical mush where standing out as a Canadian musician is a mission with no end. A revolution to return to the road and live music has begun. Standing up on the stage and giving it to your fans for real is the way to sell yourself and your product.

We all know the struggle, where, how, who. Sitting down at a computer and pecking away to scratch up resources and venues becomes time consuming and frustrating. You need to get out and get it on…now!

Underground Arts Railroad is a grassroots web project built with the independent Canadian musician as the engine. We are here to lay the tracks for you. We want to see you out on the road and up on the stage. We are assembling the most comprehensive list of resources in Canada to provide you with all you need to make your tours happen. We have Ad free profiles, with direct contact and booking with venues, festivals and house concerts on your chosen routes. You can build an army of fans to work for you, on the street and on the web. Use our Tour Guide to find where to eat, where to stay and where to get stuff. Our Grants and Resources section can help you find funding on National, Provincial and Municipal levels for your next project. Search our Industry list to find the team to make your musical dreams a reality. We of course can’t do this without you. Send us your ideas on how to survive as an independent Canadian musician, help us update our venues and festivals sections, tell us about a great place to stay or eat anywhere in the country and we’ll put it up for your fellow musicians to use.
